Letter 1924 September 26, Staten Island, N.Y. [to] Robert Scott, Portland, Oregon / [Edwin Markham]. 1924.

Markham learns that Robert is resigning from the Homletic Review. Markham hopes it won't infer with them seeing each other. He is glad that Robert is still interested in his writes on Jesus. Markham is also writing an anthology on British and American Verse. Letter is unsigned.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
